Scholarly Seminars

Held annually since 2008 on topics covering Hood's Texas Brigade, Gen. John Bell Hood, and Texas troops in the Civil War, these seminars give an opportunity for respected scholars to bring their knowledge to the general public and for the enjoyment of fellowship among attendees. Topics since 2008 include:

* 2023: November 3-4, 2023, "Green, Gettysburg, & Gunboats," hosted by The Texas Center, Schreiner University, Kerrville, Texas, included dinner meeting at Mamacita's Restaurant with talk by Ben Friberg. - see pictures
 
* 2022: November 11-12, 2022, "A Glorious Time at Brenham!," hosted by Barnhill Center, Brenham, Texas, included Historic Independence Driving Tour, Speakers, Book Signing, and Exhibits. - see pictures
 
* 2021: November 12-13, 2021, "Hill Country Scholarly Seminar," hosted by The Texas Center, Schreiner University, Kerrville, Texas, included tour of Hill Country and Canteen Ceremony honoring CSA soldiers. - see pictures
 
* 2019: November 15-16, 2019, "Giants of the Texas Confederacy" and Reception at the Texas Civil War Museum; Norris Baptist Bible Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas. - see pictures
 

* 2018: November 9-10, 2018, Washington on the Brazos State Park, contributions of Independence and Chappell Hill to Hood's Brigade, plus a docent-led tour of the historic Fanthorpe Inn in Anderson. - see pictures
 
* 2017: December 1-2, 2017, Bryan Museum, Galveston, "Celebrating Our 50th Anniversary," including a docent-led tour of The Bryan Museum and an evening at the Mernard House. - see pictures
 
* 2016: November 18-19, 2016, "Faces of Hood's Texas Brigade," Navarro College, Corsicana, Featured scholarly speakers, plus an evening at Chatfield and a tour of the famous Pearce Collection. - see pictures
 
* 2015: "Duty Faithfully Performed: Long Road Home," November 13-14, 2015, Sam Houston Memorial Museum, Huntsville, Texas. Focused on Appomattox Courthouse and the road home by Hood's soldiers.
 
* 2014: "Die Hard: Hood's Texans in 1864," November 14-15, 2014, Sam Houston Memorial Museum, Huntsville, Texas. Covered famous battles of 1864 in which the Texans acquitted themselves.
 
* 2013: "Hood's Texas Brigade: At Home & At War," November 15-16, 2013, Sam Houston Memorial Museum, Huntsville, Texas. Placed the Hood's soldiers in the context of their homes and included a tour of the
 
* 2012: "Plowshares into Swords: Hood's Texas Brigade in 1862, A Legend is Born," held at Camp Mabry, Austin, Texas. Gave insight into the battles of 1862 which forged Hood's Brigade's reputation as a premier
 
* 2011: "Texians to Arms," co-sponsored by the Department of History, the University of North Texas. The War begins.
 
* 2010: "Monuments & Memory," held at the Texas General Land Office and included a re-dedication of the 1910 Hood's Brigade Monument on the Texas State Capitol Grounds.
 
* 2009: "Vicksburg: the Fatal Folcrum." held at McMurry University, Abilene, Texas, Co-sponsored by the Department of History. The impact of the Fall of Vicksburg on Hood soldiers, through their letters home.
 
* 2008: "Texas in the War," featuring the family Archives of the Wigfall Family.
