Plowshares into Swords: Hood's Texas Brigade in 1862 -- a Legend is Born. Join us for two exciting events October 26-27, as we trace the history of Hood's Texas Brigade --the year it made its reputation. Friday evening we will tour the Texas Military Forces Museum at Camp Mabry in Austin, have supper, and hear the incomparable Susannah Ural as she draws from her extensive store of letters and diaries from the soldiers of Hood’s Texas Brigade. On Saturday, four outstanding scholars will cover the major battles and discuss the brigade leadership. Come hear Jack Waugh, Dr. Richard McCaslin, Dr. Danny Davis, and Rick Eiserman. Dedication for the Gaines' Mill Monument, May 15, 2012. Over 200 folks attending this grand dedication which included a keynote speech by Dr. Gary Gallagher, a tour by Robert E. L. Krick, and ceremony coordinated by the William Latanté Camp, SCV, Virginia. For a fuller report, click here.
Gaines Mill Monument to Hood’s Texas Brigade. We are working with the Texas Historical Commission to erect a battlefield monument to the brave men of the 1st, 4th, 5th Texas, Hampton’s South Carolina Legion, and the 18th Georgia.

Features a tour of the Confederate Cemetery, plus a lunch and meeting at The Bright Shawl. This was the home of Dr. C.E.R. King, a Confederate officer and was designed by Texas architect, Alfred Giles. The program will include a tour of the home, a talk on Dr. King and Giles and a presentation on Chaplain Davis, a 4th Texas Chaplain for whom there is a collection of materials at Trinity University.
